Locals love to meet up for events at Melbourne's hip Federation Square.

Melbourne is a great city for the gay and lesbian traveller with bars, clubs, great restaurants, gay and lesbian events, heaps of festivals, great shopping and a diverse range of gay welcoming accommodation in the central city and inner-suburban areas.

Each year the Midsumma Gay and Lesbian Festival is held in January and February. It features art events, a street parade and a ball. The Melbourne Queer Film Festival is also a large, popular event, with visitors travelling internationally and interstate to attend.
