Tasmania – AKA The Apple Isle for its famed export – is made up of four regions. The Northern Region includes Launceston the state’s second largest city and two National Parks. The Southern Region includes Hobart, the state capital. The East Coast includes five National Parks, scenic beaches and gay populated towns likes Bicheno and Swansea.
The West Coast includes Tasmania’s World Heritage area, including Lake St Clair and Cradle Mountain. The Northwest corner is home to such icons as the Stanley Nut and Sisters Beach and Burnie,where a lot of LGBT activities are mounted by the growing community.

There are dense rainforests, dramatic mountain peaks, alpine lakes and meadows, wild rivers, rugged coastline, and scenic farmland. Historic convict-built buildings are common in Tasmania, while the wildlife is often easier to spot than elsewhere particularly in the evening, when the marsupials come out…liked the iconic Tasmanian Devil.

Tasmania does not have the population to support a big gay and lesbian ‘scene’, but the community is very active. There is a range of nightspots in Hobart and Launceston, and a community resource centre and social groups like the evergreen Wellington Wanderers in Hobart.
