Formerly referred to as the City of Churches, Adelaide’s sleepy reputation is no more. Today it’s the City of Festivals, from the Tour Down Under cycle tour to the Fringe Festival to the popular LGBT Feast Festival, to name but a few.
Located between the ocean and the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide has Edwardian beauty, a beautiful river at its heart, and is just on the edge of some of Australia’s oldest and most prized vineyards.
While Adelaide and South Australia don’t have as large a gay community as some of the other capitals (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane), gay and lesbian residents report they like living in Adelaide. If you plan a visit, there should be plenty of places to stay and play under the rainbow.
