Ski Australia on Pink Mountains

2014 Ski Season - Frosty Fruits & SkiFree

The alpine regions of Australia are found mainly in the two states of New South Wales and Victoria, but there are a few scattered areas where snow occasionally falls like closer-to-Antartica Tasmania.

So who travels to the Snowy Mountains and other OZ snowfields?  North American snowbirds, of course, who want to escape during their hot summer to enjoy the winter season at gay welcoming “pink mountains” during gay ski weeks.  They include skiers, boarders, shoers and sledders.  Alpine skiing still reigns, snowboarding is well established, cross country on “skinny skis” is becoming popular, but up-and-coming activities are snow shoeing on groomed trails and dog sledding tracks through the gum trees. There’s a beauty to skiing or sledding around the snow gums, knowing you won’t find these eucalyptus trees on any other ski field in the world.
