Gay and Lesbian Travel in Australia

Byron “Gay” Bay

Byron Bay Beach
Story by Dee Farrell, international gay beaches itinerant.

Byron Bay.

It’s a getaway destination similar to the international hotspots Key West (FL), Fire Island (NY), and Ibiza (Portugal).

The subtropical climate combined with a tolerant community makes Byron the destination of choice for gay people wishing to visit or live in this amazing town.

My own visits were a decade apart, and I was happily surprised that the town is unspoilt despite recent building and migration from big cities. It remains a small town where everybody knows everybody and lesbians and gays are openly part of the business and social community, approaching 50% like Key West, I think.

What to do.

Chillout is what most people want to do when they come to Byron. That means sleep, read, laze on the beach, walk a little, eat, then sleep. While some of you will want to go sky diving or whale watching on the main beach, my posse and I can be found at Kings Beach…without a doubt one of the most beautiful nudist beaches anywhere. It is considered to be the official gay beach of Byron, attracting lesbians and gay men from all over the world for a great gay day out at the beach.

At the end of the day, everyone gathers at their favorite pub or eatery, of which there are several good choices.
